Evergreen Packaging Unveils Sentinel™ Barrier Cupstock

Evergreen Packaging, (Athens, Ga., USA) a producer of liquid and food-grade packaging board this week unveiled Sentinel™ Barrier Cupstock, a new retail packaging offering in the company's Sentinel line of fiber-based products. Sentinel Barrier Cupstock is designed as a sustainable alternative to existing foil-lined paper cups and polypropylene cups. Potential end uses for Sentinel Barrier Cupstock include barrier cups to hold cereal, cookies, candy, and other snacks.

"As demand for sustainable packaging continues to rise, we're committed to innovating our product lines to introduce new, cost-effective options to the food service and retail packaging industries," said Chris Johns, VP of Paperboard Sales at Evergreen Packaging. "Our new Sentinel Barrier Cupstock leverages our deep barrier technology expertise to provide customers with a high performance, sustainable packaging option for the retail food cup market."

Evergreen Packaging stated in the release that the company is currently focused on developing innovative fiber-based products to meet the business goals of customers and sustainability preferences of consumers. Sentinel Barrier Cupstock is a sustainable packaging option because it's made with renewable materials and renewable energy. Over 80% of the Sentinel Barrier Cupstock is paper from trees that come from forests where responsible forestry practices are used, and over 50% of the renewable energy used in the manufacturing process comes from biomass. This new product in the Sentinel line, which includes a fully renewable cupstock and ice cream board, reflects Evergreen Packaging's continued commitment to the use of renewable resources.

Sentinel Barrier Cupstock is available in a board caliper of .012 - .020 inches and is purportedly designed to meet a range of category-specific oxygen and moisture barrier requirements. It's designed to be suitable for direct converting applications, offeing what is described as "outstanding print quality performance... and provides a high-level barrier to protect product freshness and extend shelf-life. "

Evergreen's line of Sentinel paper and paperboard products are designed to be used in a range of food service and retail food packaging applications and are customizable to meet converter and brand owners' barrier and shelf-life needs. The products can be converted into a variety of formats including cups, trays, plates, ovenable board, cartons, flexible packaging, and box liners -- as well as a wide range of other formats.
