Exclusive Interview with IBBC Keynote, Mark DeAndrea of Domtar

IBBC 2017 attendees have the unique opportunity to hear from one of the industry’s top leaders during the conference’s opening session on Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2017. Mark DeAndrea, VP and business unit leader- BioMaterials at Domtar, will keynote the event with a presentation focusing on the transformation of pulp and paper and the opportunities that exist with biomaterials.
 
TAPPI caught up with Mark prior to the November conference to get his insight on the biomaterials market and the role biorefining will play in the pulp and paper industry of the future. When asked what opportunities in bioenergy/biorefining are most exciting for Domtar, he replied that "I am excited about all of the opportunities! I believe we can replace most petroleum based products with all natural bio-based products." Mark also expanded on the mission of Domtar’s newly created Biomaterials Business Unit and its focus to increase revenues and profits at their mills. He indicated that the unit has been structured into five platforms based on where they saw potential new revenue streams.  These platforms are Extractives, Lignin, Cellulosic Sugars, Thermochemical Fuels, and Advanced Fibers.
