In Memoriam: Stanley N. Marshall Jr.

Stanley N. Marshall Jr., 77, of Lakeville, Minn., USA, formerly of Veazie, Maine, passed away peacefully at his home this past February. He retired as executive director of the University of Maine Pulp and Paper Foundation in Orono, Me., and was a long-time TAPPI member (since 1970).

Stan and served on the board of directors of the Penobscot Theater Co. for 30 years. A trustee and chair of the Maine School of Math and Science, he was instrumental in organizing PVSC (Penobscot Valley Senior College) in Orono.

Stan also served as chairman for the Maine Legal Services for the Elderly for 10 years, volunteering for more than 10 years for the AARP Tax Aid Program with local responsibilities in Maine and Minnesota, and held several national positions. He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Mary; sons, Stanley N. "Lee" Marshall III and Andrew (Renee) Marshall; step daughter, Rachel (Eric) Samsel; and grandchildren, Zak, Jena, Grifin, Megan, and Emily.

A memorial gathering of friends and family was held at the White Funeral Home in Lakeville, Minn., and a Celebration of Life will take place in August 2017 in Maine. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be donated to Fairview Hospice, University of Maine Pulp and Paper Foundation Scholarship, and Maine Legal Services for the Elderly. 

Stan was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley Sr. and Elizabeth Marshall.
