What’s in a Name?

D. Robert Hammond of Mica Corporation has been involved in TAPPI for more than 15 years, and in that time he says membership has kept him relevant in an ever-changing flexible packaging industry.

"Functionality is the future of packaging, and brand owners are looking for more of it," he points out in TAPPI’s special Member Spotlight feature this month.

Designs that encompass new brand security protections as well as innovative features such as blood alcohol detection capabilities are but two of the ways the industry is evolving to meet the times. It’s also one of the reasons, Rob says, that the decision was made last year to change the name of PLACE to the International Flexible Packaging and Extrusion Division. The new name better reflects the growing worldwide nature of packaging, as well as the fact that the Division serves as the primary global resource for information, research, and networking in these areas, he noted.

To learn more about Rob’s insights on the industry, as well as some of his personal and professional interests, read this month’s Member Spotlight

Spotlight participants are recommended by fellow members and staff.  If you would like to nominate a member, just send their name (or names) to MemberSpotlight@tappi.org.  We will forward a Spotlight Questionnaire to fill out and return.

We look forward to seeing you in the Spotlight!
