TAPPI Industry Career Center: GL&V seeks Pumps and Mixers Global Business Manager

As the Global Business Manager, Pumps & Mixers, you will be accountable for the overall product line growth and earnings as well as the associated budget approved by GL&V. In this role you will be responsible for the design and implementation of marketing plan(s), which supports the company’s strategic plan.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with account managers, agents, and others to understand market demands and customer needs to further promote the product line. Establishes pricing consistent with market conditions and business plan requirements.
  • Assist the GM with forecasting, including but not limited to warranty, hot prospects listing, potential bookings, and margins.
  • Provide product-line support and training to sales team and/or other departments supporting the product line.
  • Deliver technical presentations to customers and prospective customers.
  • Audit contract language to assure compliance with company guidelines.
  • Verify cost basis for quotations and recommend design modifications or alternative sourcing to reduce cost.
  • Maintain a database and a customer potential opportunity list.
  • Responsible for management of the product line database and product line knowledge.
  • Assist and support the resolution of customer complaints and disputes by implementing corrective and preventive action as needed.
  • Monitor competitors’ activities.
  • Manage departmental expenses within the established budget.
  • Create a work environment in which innovation, entrepreneurship, and personal improvement are encouraged and supported.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from four-year college or university in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering and/or related degree with five - seven years of related experience; and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • High level of understanding of pulp and paper mill operation.  
  • Ability to interpret technical data, manage multiple projects and priorities, and resolve concerns.
  • Ability to recognize potential sales or service opportunities.
  • Ability to maintain composure and make competent decisions in difficult and stressful situations.
  • Strong inter-personal skills in dealing with internal and external customers.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Capability to handle multiple and changing priorities.
  • Ability to support startups of equipment and conduct field audits of equipment as required.
  • Ability to travel at least 25% - 40% of travel time via vehicle or air travel.
