Mondi, South Africa, is beginning the rebuild of PM 1 at its packaging paper mill in Swiecie, Poland, according to a report by Pulpandpaper-Technology.com. The rebuild, expected to be completed and the machine restarted by the end of this month (March 2017), will increase Mondi’s kraftliner capacity by 80,000 metric tpy.

The manager of the paper and packaging mill, Maciej Kunda, announced that the rebuild of PM would boost the mill’s output of lightweight kraftliner. The capacity of the mill was already increased once, in 2007, from 130,000 to 180,000 metric tpy for paper in the 90-140 gsm weight range. The current rebuild of PM 1 will take mill capacity up to 260,000 metric tpy.

Mill capacity for softwood kraft pulp will be concurrently increased by 100,000 metric tpy. The capacity currently amounts to around 350,000 metric tpy, according to earlier reports from Mondi on its Polish mill, Pulpandpaper-Technology.com noted.
