WestRock, Norcross, Ga., USA, announced this week that it will move its headquarters from Norcross (Gwinnett County) in the northeast section of the greater Atlanta area to Sandy Springs (Fulton County) in the north central metro area. The company will relocate some 800 employees to a 180,000-sq.-ft. facility (seven floors) in Northpark Town Center (photo), a tower complex near Ga. 400 and Abernathy Rd. close to the Sandy Springs MARTA station (a key factor behind the decision to relocate there).

"This office will provide additional space for growth for our team and will enable us to enhance collaboration by co-locating key functions," WestRock CEO Steve Voorhees said. "Access to MARTA and key transportation hubs will also benefit our employees in the region."

WestRock executives also wanted quicker transit access to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport than the Norcross campus provided.

Senior leadership, corporate support functions, and commercial teams will relocate, WestRock said.

Although the company will leave its longtime home on Norcross’ Thrasher Street, it will maintain another office in the city (along Peachtree Industrial Boulevard), as well as locations in nearby Duluth and in Richmond, Va., officials said.

The move is planned to begin in "late fall" and should be complete by spring 2018, a WestRock spokesman said. The company plans to sell the current Norcross campus once the moves are completed.

WestRock was formed in 2015 when longtime Gwinnett company Rock-Tenn merged with Virginia’s MeadWestvaco Corp.
