Stora Enso (Helsinki, Finland) reported this week it has been identified as a global leader for its actions and strategies in response to global warming. The group has been awarded a position on the Supplier Climate A List by CDP, the international not-for-profit that drives sustainable economies.

Stora Enso is among 3% of corporations participating in CDP’s supply chain program to be awarded a position on the Supplier Climate A List. More than 4 300 companies submitted annual supply chain climate change disclosures to CDP for independent assessment against its scoring methodology.

Stora Enso is also the only Nordic company to be included in CDP’s Supplier Engagement Leaderboard. Only 1% of companies analysed by CDP are supplier engagement leaders driving change in their supply chains.

"We believe that the key to combating global warming is the use of renewable materials," said Noel Morrin, EVP Sustainability at Stora Enso. "For more than a decade, Stora Enso has actively reduced the energy intensity of its operations and in many places, also its dependency on fossil fuels. Today, more than 75% of the energy the group generates and uses comes from carbon neutral sources. In recent years, we have also started to work on our supply chain emissions."

CDP CEO Paul Simpson noted that "we congratulate the 112 Supplier Climate A List companies that are leading the charge towards our low carbon future. Companies are key actors in enabling the global economy to achieve its new climate goals, and the leadership of this group points the way for others to take bold action and capitalize on the many opportunities that await."
