Oji Fibre Solutions, Japan, reports that it will build a new paper-based packaging plant in Yatala, Queensland, Australia. The new facility will expand Oji's Fibre’s Australian operations, allowing it to grow its customer base along the country’s eastern seaboard.

Oji purchased Carter Holt Harvey Pulp & Packaging in Australia in 2014, and launched an expansion/upgrade of its Auckland paper bag plant, which should be completed by the end of 2016.  The company also is investing in other pulp, paper, and packaging operations in New Zealand and Australia.

The new plant in Yatala will produce corrugated packaging products for end use markets throughout Queensland, Northern New South Wales, and Northern Territory. The facility will complement the company's existing corrugated plants in Sydney and Melbourne. The new plant has received support from the Queensland State Government through the Advance Queensland Industry Attraction Fund, and from the Gold Coast City Council’s Investment Attraction Program.
