Speciality paper and cartonboard supplier, Chapelton (Kent, U.K.) announced this past week that it is now distributing Smurfit Kappa’s Graphic Board products range in the U.K., produced at its Wrexen Mill in Central Germany. The two companies have previously made an agreement to have Smurfit Kappa deliver grease resistant board in the U.K.

The product range includes an uncoated Greyboard, white lined, Kraftboard, black lined, and the Pasted Bookbinding Board. With an extensive versatility, the products are suitable for a wide variety of print applications, including book covers, lever arch files, stationery, games and puzzles, luxury packaging, and displays. The range is being aimed at the book coverings sector, box makers, and also jigsaw producers.

The range contains products that all have significant characteristics and properties, including a three-ply construction with inline lamination and a paper center. Not only do the range products benefit from excellent flatness, they also retain a high stiffness and even surface levels. The range products are light, flat, and smooth, and have precise dimensions and thickness, as well as a quick glue absorption.

Benefiting from small order and partial load ordering, the products can also be cut-to-size, and can also have tailor-made packaging and deliveries available if required. Call-off stocks from the mill are also available, along with humidity adjustments as and when needed.

The products will all be available for distribution through Chapelton in a wide range of weights and sizes, ranging from 505 g/cm to 2,460 g/cm.

The Graphic Board brand ranges are all produced at Smurfit Kappa’s Wrexen mill using fourdrinier production methods, with recycled paper being used as their raw material content. The fourdrinier production method provides the products with an equal smoothness on both sides and superior stiffness, together with a good capability for scoring and embossing finishes.

The Wrexen Board Mill was the subject of a significant EUR 3 million investment by Smurfit Kappa in 2015, and has a production output of 80,000 metric tpy of paperboard and some 230,000 metric tpy of corrugated paper. The Wrexen mill is accredited to both FSC and PEFC chain of custody certification, as well as OHSAS 18001, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 15593 standards.

Chapelton has enjoyed a long-standing relationship with Smurfit Kappa, which is one of Europe’s leading corrugated packaging producers, and has been responsible for distributing a number of Smurfit Kappa’s products, such as with the grease board agreement, throughout its distribution partnership extending back over many years.

Commenting on the distribution arrangement for the Graphic Board products, Chapelton Managing Director Neil Skelton stated that "we (Chapelton) are really pleased with the tie up with Smurfit Kappa Wrexen, it gives us access to new materials and new markets. The flexibility of the mill will be a really helpful tool in progressing sales in the U.K. and Ireland. We look forward to a sharp increase in business in the U.K."
