 TAPPI Industry Career Center: Glatfelter seeks Project Mechanical Engineer

 The Project Mechanical Engineer reports to the Engineering Supervisor, Mechanical and is assigned duties on a project basis. This position requires demonstrated competency in the theory and practice of mechanical engineering, and general knowledge of other engineering disciplines.  The role involves leading multiple projects concurrently with application of sound engineering knowledge accompanied by proficiency in project management.
 
 Assignments will also include mechanical engineering support to the Electrical and Instrumentation Engineering group when this support is a necessary component of the project.  In performing the duties of this position, the candidate will interface with vendors, contractors, consultants, Procurement, Maintenance, Operations, CAD Operators, and other disciplines, as necessary.  Although the role has no daily direct supervision responsibilities, the candidate will direct work of others in managing/leading projects.

DUTIES, COMPETENCIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  • Provides Project Management for Capital, Expense, and work order projects as assigned.
  • Develops scope, cost estimates, project timetables, and cost records on an individual project basis.
  • Tracks and maintains project costs, budgets, cash flow, and accruals.
  • Carries projects through from initial concept, design, specifications, bid review and selection, installation, and start-up, including training, spare parts, equipment files, and documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to assimilate oneself to the pulp, papermaking, and coating processes, and all related equipment as assignments will encompass the full mill assets.
  • Develops and maintains positive working relationships with all constituencies.
  • Prepares status reports and closing reports for assigned projects.
  • Effective time and cost management skills. Ability to coordinate work and avoid conflict in the face of production schedules, scheduled production outages, and other engineering project activities.
  • Assures his/her engineering output is consistent with established work standards, meets applicable codes, and is performed safely with no adverse impact on the environment.
  • Maintains and grows professional competency in his/her field and stays current with technologiesand products that provide opportunities for improved business results.
  • Completes all required environmental, safety, and compliance training.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Prospective candidates should hold a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology with a minimum of three (3) years experience in project engineering. A bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering will be considered if accompanied by project engineering experience in industrial systems involving pumping, hydraulics, HVAC, process heating and cooling, and rotating equipment.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge with the following computer software; Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Project, and AutoCAD.
  • Experience in the Pulp & Papermaking industry desirable. Any prior assignments involving structural or civil engineering would be considered a plus.
  • Comfortable with time and cost sensitive assignments while handling a diverse workload.
  • Good interpersonal skills aided by effective verbal and written communications.
