Fatal Accident Occurs at Valmet Project Site in Sweden

Valmet, Finland, reports that on Thursday of last week (June 2, 2016) a serious workplace accident occurred in its installation activities at the Södra Cell Värö pulp mill expansion project in Sweden. An employee of Valmet's subcontractor was seriously injured in a lifting operation and later died at the hospital, while receiving treatment for injuries sustained during the accident.

"Our thoughts are with the deceased's family and colleagues. We have informed the personnel working with the project on site and are giving them the needed support. Valmet is committed to protecting the health, safety, and environment (HSE) of our people, customers, partners, and the communities where we operate. Everyone has the right to a safe work environment. Investigation of the accident has been started and corrective actions will be implemented to continuously improve our processes and routines to ensure safety," said Stefan Mattsson of Valmet. 
 
Valmet has initiated an incident investigation in cooperation with the customer and contractor. The incident is also under investigation by the police and the Swedish Work Environment Authority.
