Suzano (São Paulo, Brazil) announced yesterday (June 1) that a fire broke out in a storage area at the São Paulo/Suzano City company unit on the night of May 31. With the support of the fire department and Suzano’s security team, the fire was controlled and eventually extinguished.

Two service providers suffered minor injuries, were promptly rescued, and sent to the hospital in the Suzano district of São Paulo. Both are reported to be doing well.

The pulp production unit and the paper machines did not suffer any damage. Losses from the fire are basically paper jumbo-rolls and the structure of the storage shed, all of which have insurance coverage. Pulp production and the paper machines were shut down for safety reasons and production is being resumed as the area gets cleared.

Suzano noted the company has production and inventory flexibility in other facilities and it is working to minimize any impacts to clients.
