Whether it’s a music teacher who taught you self-confidence, or that biology professor who inspired your love of nature, we can all think of at least one educator who has left a positive, indelible mark on our lives. Teachers can ignite passion for learning, challenge our abilities, and open up a world of possibilities. That’s what makes them so special, which is all the more the reason we want take time to express our gratitude this Teacher Appreciation Week, Georgia-Pacif, Atlanta, Ga., USA, recently stated.

"At Georgia-Pacific, we love this time of year when we get to show our support for the teachers in our facility communities across the country. Since 1997, we’ve sponsored more than 200 teachers to participate in highly engaging and interactive educational training programs, and this year will be no different," the company explained in a press release this past week.

This summer, the company will send the largest group yet, with 37 teachers set to attend one of three programs:
  • Keystone Science School in Colorado, which focuses on ways to boost students’ critical thinking skills with fun and practical approaches to teaching environmental issues.
  • Creeks to Coast, a Georgia Aquarium program that delves into understanding water issues, while making a trek from the north Georgia mountains to Apalachicola Bay, Fla.
  • Founders Fellows, in which attendees travel to Washington D.C. to receive training and tools to educate students about America’s founders, their ideals, and economic and civil liberties.
This year’s selected teachers hail from Georgia-Pacific’s facility communities in 13 states: Alabama, Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, New York, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Wisconsin.

Georgia-Pacific thanks all the hardworking teachers out there this Teacher Appreciation Week, and all year long.
