The Navigator Co., formerly Portucel Soporcel, reports that a fire broke out at its tissue mill in Vila Velha de Rodao, Portugal, on May 3. Several fire brigades from the Castelo Branco district were mobilized, in addition to the mill’s own firefighting systems. No personnel injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire and the full extent of the damage have not yet been determined, but the fire was contained to the paper production area, without causing any damage to the new TM 2, the company reports. The fire did not damage the converting area, or any of the finished product warehouses, and the mill’s normal operations and regular supply to customers will not be affected.

The mill has two tissue machines with a combined production capacity of 60,000 metric tpy. The new Toscotec TM 2 was started up this past September.
