TAPPI Spotlight: Mike Farrell - How Not to Reinvent the Wheel

TAPPI Member Mike Farrell says one of the longest-standing benefits he’s received from his more than 25 years of active involvement in TAPPI is his frequent use of Standards and TIPs.

"I’ve learned a lot to help make an impact for my organization," he said.

Currently VP of the Recycled Mill Division for Graphic Packaging International, he is responsible for overseeing five recycled board mills. Mike has been involved with TAPPI since graduating college, and he notes that the ability to network with fellow professionals over the years has also been a career, and knowledge-base, boost.

He especially encourages young professionals in the industry to get involved in TAPPI. Not only will it help make them more confident in their roles, it also provides valuable access to more experienced professionals who serve as sounding boards for future problems.

It was just that type of access to those specially aligned resources that prompted Mike to first join after graduating college. The icing on the cake, he says, was the ability to become a better papermaker and manager through active involvement in various courses, conferences, and classes.
