Oji Holdings Announcement Regarding Shut Down of Kasugai Mill

Oji Holdings Corp. (Tokyo, Japan) announced this week that the company has decided to close the No. 4 machine at Oji Paper Co.’s Kasugai mill. Throughout the mill's history, Oji explained they have rebuilt the manufacturing system several times to optimally meet the changes in demand for printing and communications paper. However, the company now foresees demand continuing to decrease, leading to the decision to make this closure to further reduce costs and strengthen international competitiveness.

Overview of effect on production:
  • No. 4 Machine becomes an inactive asset
  • Machine production lost: woodfree printing paper, wood containing paper, middle grade, and wrapping paper
  • Production capacity lost: 44,000 tpy
  • Time of closure (scheduled): March 2017.
Oji Holdings said that it will make the utmost efforts to avoid inconveniencing customers and all concerned parties with this closure.
