Norwalk, Conn., USA, business intelligence consultants to the pulp and paper industry, has appointed Marko Summanen to lead its European business development. Previously services director at Valmet, Summanen brings more than 20 years of paper industry experience across strategic, tactical, and engineering functions to his role at Fisher International.

"For a solutions-focused company like ours, Marko’s understanding of paper industry operations and the particular challenges faced by European players is table stakes," noted Fisher International President Rod Fisher, adding that "his deep awareness of the leverage that business intelligence provides is what makes him an outstanding new addition to the company. We offer the industry unique products and services that no one else has. Marko will help clients see the tremendous possibilities this represents for the industry’s producers, suppliers, and investors."

In his new capacity, Summanen plans to show how advanced business intelligence resources will optimize existing assets and improve competitive advantage. As he puts it, "most companies recognize that leveraging data can improve performance. But not enough appreciate the transformative power of business intelligence. My goal is to break these barriers and show how easily it can work for them."

Summanen and his team will demonstrate how the systematic use of business intelligence resources creates value. "Over the past five years, companies have been searching for holistic enterprise-wide management models," reflects Summanen. "For many, this is a new frontier, but Fisher has been a pioneer in this space for quite some time. In my work, I saw the power of integrating data from different sources with FisherSolve™’s Business Intelligence system. This provides totally new avenues and opportunities for strategic decision making. I can safely say that there’s nothing else like it in the paper industry or any other process industry - not even close." Summanen can be reached at msummanen@fisheri.com.

Fisher International supports the pulp and paper industry with business intelligence and management consulting services. With research resources in nearly every pulp and paper producing country in the world, Fisher’s comprehensive databases, analytical technologies, and expert consultants are used by the paper industry around the world every day.
