TAPPI Industry Career Center: Solenis seeks Lab Technician Staff

The Solenis Research Center is located in suburban Wilmington, Del., and is one of the central R&D facilities of the corporation. The center is a modern research complex on a scenic 55 acre campus.
 
The Lab Technician Staff* opening is located at our Research Center in Wilmington, DE. The Lab Tech Staff position is a non-exempt position reporting to a principal investigator and work at our Solenis Research Center. Duties would include:
  • Planning, conducting, analyzing, and reporting laboratory experiments
  • Maintaining laboratory equipment
  • Maintaining consumable supplies inventory
  • Conducting laboratory applications testing, writing methods, learning new analytical techniques, operating instrumentation, performing data analysis and reporting the results to principal investigator(s)
  • Managing lab with strong focus on safety compliance; for example, assisting in writing job safety assessments, assisting in writing or leading hazard reviews
  • Completing all safety accountabilities
  • Interacting with applications engineering staff, sales staff, and customers to gain application information and solve problems.
The candidate would work in pulp and paper contaminant control R&D. He or she would be responsible for assisting the primary investigator in developing INNOVA Stage gate projects from concept through commercial launch, and general business support.
  • BA or BS in Scientific area OR a 2 year degree
  • 10-15 years pulp and paper industry / specialty chemical lab experience with focus on process chemistry/contaminant control applications
  • Must understand and practice safe work habits
  • Possess knowledge of responsible care
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Knowledge of LIMS is a plus
  • Must be a good team player
  • Possess good communication skills
  • Able to work in a high volume laboratory setting
  • Capable of working with little direct supervision, be driven and a self starter
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point
  • Basic knowledge of surface and colloid chemistry including laboratory techniques
  • Chemical formulation experience a plus
  • Able to carry out advanced, complex technical procedures as well as being capable of explaining to others the details behind the work
  • Able to run a basic project, develop methods, and design and execute experimental plans
  • Ability to devise well organized record keeping system that lends itself to easy and quick retrieval of data that cross references records to allow for easier data tracking, and a candidate must be able to write conclusions and suggests future work for projects
  • Desirable to be able to demonstrate an understanding how different factors influence results and makes adjustments accordingly
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
