TAPPI Industry Career Center: Lithotype Seeks Quality Assurance and Product Development Manager

Quality Assurance: Manages and updates the quality systems in place to assure a consistent process and quality product. Conducts audits at suppliers and off-site locations to assure the same consistency.
 
Product Development: Aligned with company objectives, will work with the Lithotype team to develop new structures and make recommendations for new product development. Maintains close relationships with suppliers and the industry to stay at the forefront of technology.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
 
Sets quality standards and testing protocols for products designed to meet customer expectations and creates standards and specifications to be used by suppliers.
 
Maintains the procedures of the quality system for desired results; updates ASTM & TAPPI procedures and test methods; coordinates and reviews analytical lab results; maintains and updates all supplier product specifications; and ensures that FDA guidelines and regulations are met.
 
Assists in the engineering of new projects to assure end use functionality. Gathers information in a methodical way and works as part of a team to develop the new offering.
 
Manages the corrective action process when out of specification product is found at Lithotype or customer site.
Prepares defect and quality reports and provides necessary analysis, trends, and recommendations. Presents information in a clear and concise manner via graphs, charts, or electronic media.
 
Is available for field technical service to either help develop a new product, solve problems or learn end use information.
Develops and maintains a rapport with all customers and suppliers to assist in the expedient resolution of quality issues/problems.
 
Performs internal and supplier quality audits and maintains readiness for audits from external sources such as BRC, AIB, GMP, HAACP, etc.
 
Maintains contact with suppliers regarding their capabilities and available product offerings.
 
Sets up and performs destructive and nondestructive tests on materials, parts, and products to measure material characteristics, physical properties, and simulated packaging environments.
                                      
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervises one laboratory technician at each of the production facilities (South San Francisco, CA & Bolingbrook, IL)

Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) or equivalent from a university, college, or technical school, preferably in packaging; or 3 or more years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
 
Qualifications include:
  • Knowledge of printing and packaging processes, films, inks and coatings.
  • Ability to become knowledgeable of printing equipment, packaging equipment, ink and coating applications, packaging films, and Lithotype’s unique manufacturing process.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to interpret analytical data.
  • Positive can-do attitude; excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Experience in managing projects.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
Desirable Skills/Knowledge:
  • Experience in lithographic, flexographic, and rotogravure printing processes.
  • Experience in printing and/or packaging environment.
  • Familiarity with calibration (preventative maintenance) of QA equipment.
  • Familiarity with Radius or other proprietary database software.
