TAPPI Industry Career Center: Allnorth Seeks Director of Pulp and Paper

The director of pulp and paper, USA, will be responsible for leading the business development initiatives within the pulp and paper industry. Specifically, the director will target the kraft pulp sector in the southeastern U.S. with a vision of growing beyond that area. He or she will be responsible for securing major capital projects, such as mill optimization and process improvements, by engaging in solution based selling and acting as a trusted technical adviser. This is accomplished by assessing market opportunities, identifying potential clients, cultivating client relationships, and generating qualified opportunities. He or she will be responsible for proactively identifying and qualifying opportunities and influencing their associated decision makers and users while working with the general manager of pulp and paper and/or division managers to successfully close the opportunity.
 
You will own the development of identified accounts in the pulp and paper sector in southeastern U.S., and influence the technical project team and plan that will deliver on client requirements while differentiating Allnorth from incumbent consultants. The director will be involved in the front-end project development to initiate key projects. In addition, he or she will develop a working relationship with the client and ensure that there is an open continuous flow of information. Thus, the director will exercise a high level of influence over client relationships and engage in complex problem solving to ensure client satisfaction at any point in the client project life cycle.
 
This position will report to the general manager, pulp and paper and work independently. The successful candidate may be located in the southeastern USA and should expect significant travel.
 
Requirements:
  • A technical understanding of kraft pulp process and operations is essential in this role with this experience being developed through engineering consulting or mill operations with a preference for both.
  • Minimum of a diploma of technology in a discipline related to Allnorth’s service offerings or minimum 15 years of business development experience in selling engineering services to the pulp and paper industry. An engineering undergraduate degree with P.E. certification is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Sound knowledge of engineering design and project processes will be considered a strong asset.
  • Client focus – demonstrated capability to effectively develop, maintain and nurture strong relationships with clients by listening, understanding, and responding to identified needs.
  • Professional services sales – track record of success selling and growing a portfolio of business, preferably in an engineering consulting domain.
  • Commercial business development – demonstrated ability understanding client’s business issues, see BD/sales opportunity and develop attractive proposals to enhance "value" to their business in an innovative and attractive manner.
