U.S. P&W Paper Shipments Decline 8% in October

Total U.S. printing and writing (P&W) paper shipments decreased 8% this past October compared with October 2014, according to the AF&PA (Washington, D.C., USA) October 2015 Printing-Writing Paper Report released this past week. Total P&W paper inventory levels decreased 3% from September. Key P&W paper data for October 2015 include: 
  • Uncoated free sheet (UFS) paper shipments decreased 4% relative to shipments in October 2014, the fourth decrease in the past six months. Imports of UFS decreased 34% year-over-year in September.
  • October coated free sheet (CFS) paper shipments decreased 7% compared with October 2014. Imports of CFS papers decreased 8% in September, the second year-over-year decrease in the past three months.
  • Uncoated mechanical (UM) paper shipments decreased 3% compared with October 2014. Imports of UM papers were down 12% in September, the fifteenth consecutive monthly decline. 
  • Coated mechanical (CM) shipments in October decreased 21% relative to October 2014. Imports of CM increased in September by 27% compared with the same period last year.
