Atlantic Corp. (Atlantic Packaging) has announced an agreement to purchase Computer Integrated Manufacturing Systems (CIMS) of Dalton, Ga., USA. Atlantic and CIMS have been friendly competitors over the past two decades, with Atlantic serving businesses and manufacturers with packaging equipment sales, inventory management, and materials distribution out of its branch office in Atlanta. CIMS has established themselves as a leading packaging equipment manufacturer and films supplier in this area.

Atlantic was founded in 1946 and has expanded steadily since that time, developing diverse capabilities in manufacturing, distribution, and technical expertise to serve the packaging needs of manufacturers across North America.  Atlantic remains a privately held company, employing nearly 1,000 people in 19 branch locations across the U.S., the Dominican Republic, and Central America.

This latest acquisition brings 10 new employees in sales, administration, and distribution with an additional six technicians working under contract.

Mike Peeples and Alan Little, two Auburn University engineers, founded CIMS 26 years ago. They combined their interest in equipment with their aptitude for innovative design to provide carpet manufacturers in the southeastern U.S. with a better way to wrap and ship their products. Their focus on solving unique packaging challenges and manufacturing high quality equipment combined with a commitment to outstanding customer service has earned them a remarkable reputation and impressive customer loyalty.

Upon finalization of the acquisition, Atlantic will begin servicing the several hundred CIMS-built stretch machines currently in operation and will also obtain the materials side of the business while CIMS will turn their attention to engineering and manufacturing laser-guided vehicles.

Atlantic has plans to move materials inventory and distribution from Dalton to their existing Atlanta branch in 2016 while maintaining a sales and technical service office in Dalton.
