BASF's Paper Chemicals has recently announced the re-alignment of its resources along manufacturing value chains. The newly created Global Business Unit "Paper Chemicals" (G-EVW) will report in through the Performance Chemicals Division (EV). 
 
The Paper Chemical technical sales representative will manage BASF Paper Chemicals business and relationships with defined regional and/or key account customer(s). The incumbent will also be required to meet yearly targets for area by generating new sales and maximizing existing account opportunities.
 
Other requirements include: 
 
Effective communication to and with business management groups, business support groups, and global teams where applicable. Developing and facilitating relationship with customers at all levels within the organization. Working independently with minimal supervision. Adhering to BASF safety, health, and environmental guidelines. Some travel is expected to fulfill the job requirements (1-3 nights/week estimated). The position may require travel to other regions of North America. The selected candidate must be located near a major airport. 
 
A sound working knowledge and understanding of chemical processes, products, and markets related to the paper and packaging Industry is required. In addition, the necessary technical expertise to introduce, sell, service, and assist customers in the use of BASF products. 
 
Education requirements: B.S. degree in chemical engineering, pulp and paper, paper science, mechanical engineering, chemistry or related technical degree. A minimum of three years (five-plus preferred) sales/customer related experience in the pulp and paper industry or other chemical related industry i.e. water treatment. Strong background in papermaking,wet end chemistry, specialty chemicals, paperboard, newsprint, or fine paper production.
 
Also needed is a strong working knowledge of paper colorants and paper coloration and the ability to solve coloration issues and implement solutions at the customer location preferred. Excellent written oral and communication skills. Adept at building strong relationships with multiple internal functions and with all levels at customers. Must possess a strong initiative, be results oriented, and have excellent influencing/impacting skills.Computer literate with high skill level in Microsoft products (PowerPoint, Excel, Word etc.). Extensive problem solving skills (statistical process control, kaizen, six sigma, etc.) and the ability to use this information to recommend changes to customer process preferred. Exposure to or application knowledge of functional chemicals, process chemicals and dry strength additives a plus Strong mechanical aptitude and process problem solving skills. Entrepreneurial drive and passion to succeed, a clear track record of high achievement.
