Klaipedos kartonas AB, Vilnius, Lithuania, a subsidiary of Grigiskes AB, has begun a paper machine modernization project that will double the company's production capacity within three to five years. The project will be implemented in three stages.

Klaipedos kartonas AB and Voith Paper S.A., which belongs to the Voith GmbH Co. (Germany), have signed a supply agreement for new equipment amounting to EUR 9.3 million and have already launched the first stage of the modernization project.

"We are going to invest EUR 13.6 million in the project during this stage. After the new equipment is installed, the speed and volume of paper production will increase by 30% by the end of the third quarter of 2016. At the same time, production quality parameters also will improve, and the range will be expanded. Taking into account the increasing demand for production, we hope that these investments help the company strengthen its position within the international markets," said Gintautas Pangonis, president of Grigiskes AB and chairman of Klaipedos kartonas AB.

This year, Klaipedos kartonas AB also will invest to increase the production volume of honeycomb paper, and in October plans to start a second honeycomb paper production line. In this regard, the company plans to invest more than EUR 1.4 million. When the new line is started, honeycomb paper production capacity is expected to increase by almost three times.

Klaipedos kartonas AB, established in 1898, is one of the oldest companies in Lithuania. It produces raw materials for the production of corrugated board--testliner and fluting, as well as honeycomb paper used in the furniture industry, door production, etc.
