According to a report by Louisville Business First, Louisville, Ky., USA, Ben Blincoe, president and COO of Premier Packaging in Louisville said the company will expand its employee base by opening a 159,400-square-foot corrugated sheet paper board plant and distribution center in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Blincoe said Premier Packaging has purchased the building and will invest about $1.5 million to upgrade the space into a manufacturing and distribution plant. He said the plant should be operational by August, but did not disclose the purchase price of the building or identify the seller.

The investment represents a significant upgrade in the Indianapolis market for Premier Packaging, which operates a roughly 60,000-square-foot distribution center in the city. It's in leased space and will be closed, Blincoe said.

Premier Packaging has about 350 employees nationwide, he said, but its distribution team in Indianapolis has only about four people. So the company will add 20 jobs in the city immediately. He said the company expects to add 40 to 50 total jobs in Indianapolis within the next two years.

Founded in 1994, Premier Packaging offers numerous types of protective packaging for the medical, e-commerce, food packaging, high-tech and manufacturing industries, such as foam packaging, paper boards, cartons and boxes. Blincoe said the advent of Internet commerce has led to rapid growth for the company, as it provides much of the packaging for products, including laptop computers, that are shipped by mail.
