MeadWestvaco Corp. (MWV), Richmond, Va., USA, and RockTenn Co., Norcross, Ga., this week announced that WestRock will be the name of their newly combined company when the two packaging companies complete their previously announced merger. WestRock will trade on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol WRK.

"WestRock draws on the strongest elements from each of our legacy names," said Steve Voorhees, who will be the CEO of WestRock Co. "The name speaks to our determination to build on the long track record of success and growth that has been established by both companies. WestRock's aspiration is to be the premier partner and unrivaled provider of winning paper and packaging solutions for our customers."

The pending combination between MWV and RockTenn was announced on Jan. 26, 2015. The companies have received antitrust approval in the U.S. and are awaiting other regulatory and shareholder approvals that are expected next month. The combined company will have 42,000 employees from more than 300 operating facilities in North America, South America, Europe, and Asia.
