Domtar Corp., Montreal, Que., Canada, reports that it has accepted the Mayor's International Community Award (MICA) for its outstanding charitable contributions in the Greater Charlotte, N.C., USA, area. Coordinated by the Charlotte International Cabinet and in conjunction with the Office of the Mayor, the MICA awards honor global companies with a presence in the Charlotte region for their contributions to local philanthropy.

Domtar has a corporate office in Fort Mill, S.C., as well as a manufacturing facility in Rock Hill, S.C. Charlotte Mayor Dan Clodfelter presented the awards Tuesday at a reception at the Booth Playhouse.

"We are honored to receive this award and grateful for recognition from a dynamic city that many of us at Domtar call home," said Dick Thomas, SVP of sales and marketing at Domtar. "I'm accepting this award on behalf of Domtar's nearly 10,000 global employees who are committed to the sustainable development of their local communities through our support of education, sustainability, and healthcare causes."

Domtar believes that community investment is an essential component of corporate social responsibility. In the Charlotte region, Domtar says that it is proud to support organizations such as Classroom Central and First Book, which provide school supplies and new books to children in need. Additionally, Domtar has partnered with the Anne Springs Close Greenway, supporting its Get Close To Nature capital campaign and participating in volunteer activities that help maintain the nature preserve.
