FIME/NAME Award: Setting the Standards for Excellence

The Foundation for Industrial Maintenance Excellence (FIME), Cape Coral, Fla., USA, founded in 2000 (NAME 1991), recognizes and encourages excellence in the field of industrial maintenance, reliability, and capacity assurance. The Foundation sponsors the North American Maintenance Excellence Award honoring those facilities—manufacturing, processing, and service industry sites--that have achieved world-class excellence in their maintenance, reliability, and capacity assurance.

The NAME Award is widely regarded as the most prestigious recognition in the maintenance and reliability function. Awards are presented to individual plants on the basis of their maintenance departments’ ability to provide "capacity assurance for operational excellence" in the areas of organization, work processes, and materials management.

Applications for the 2015 North American Maintenance Excellence (NAME) Award are now available for downloading on the award’s web site. Deadline for applications is June 30. Initial application fee is $1,000 for 2015 entries. Fees for onsite audits of finalists are based on actual costs. The "Quick Check," also on the site, offers the applicant the opportunity to see if their site is ready to apply. For additional information about the NAME Award, contact information and detailed instructions are available on the site.

To qualify for the award, the applicant must first meet a minimum level of accomplishment as determined by the award’s board of directors based on the information provided in the application. Those sites that qualify at this level are then offered an on-site audit conducted by FIME/NAME representatives and reviewed by the entire board of directors. Any site that meets the award’s standards of excellence may be honored with the NAME Award. All applicants receive valuable feedback based on the submitted information and the evaluations by the board of directors.

The NAME Award program continues to be of value not only to the award-winning companies who support the program, but also to those who aspire to earn it.  Many companies have applied, few have been chosen.

FIME/NAME is a nonprofit, volunteer organization, administered by industrial practitioners mostly comprised of past NAME Award winners.
