Paper Excellence Plans Restart of Chetwynd Mill as Early as July

Print Print this Article | Send to Colleague

Paper Excellence, Richmond, B.C., Canada, plans to restart its Chetwynd mechanical pulp mill in British Columbia as early as this July. The mill, which Paper Excellence acquired from Tembec in March 2014, has been idle since September 2012. The soft market for high-yield pulp coupled with the mill's cost structure resulted in its closing.

After buying the mill, Paper Excellence announced plans to invest up to $50 million, including working capital and capital expenditure, toward its restart. Prior to its shutdown in 2012, the Chetwynd mill had the capacity to produce 240,000 metric typy of hardwood BCTMP (bleached chemi-thermomechanical pulp).

Paper Excellence operates seven pulp mills in Canada and in Europe.
