Direct Paper Opens Supply Chain to Australian Market

According to a report in this past week’s Pro Print Magazine, Paramatta, Australia, the state of New South Wales has a new paper merchant, with Direct Paper Supplies opening a new 4,400 sq. meter warehouse housing 2,500 tonnes of stock. The family-owned Direct Paper Co. (based in Melbourne) had been supplying the Sydney market with boutique converted stock for the past five years, and now feels it has secured the market for a larger expansion.

Sales director Dale O’Neill said the nation’s largest city, Sydney, is the logical step forward for the company and the big warehouse space nearby now gives it the space and opportunity to grow there.

"The warehouse is big enough for us to be able to carry the full stock of coated and uncoated papers, and packaging boards that print businesses require. That will enable us to expand our market share in Sydney," O’Neill explained. "We have had a great response since we decided to open in Sydney – our good old fashioned service is being warmly welcomed.

"We had been unable to service printers for merchant sales in Sydney from Melbourne due to the high cost of freight, but now by having our own base near Sydney, we can provide the service and product offering that printers have been asking for," O’Neill emphasized. He added the relatively central West Ryde location will allow the company to offer prompt service that printers appreciate.

It has taken 19 years according to the company, but the directors believe this time is right for Direct Paper to have a permanent warehouse that will cater to the large city.

"As a company, we are measured in our approach, and while we had previously considered a Sydney base, we felt we were not quite ready. A lot of lessons have been learned and we now are confident in our capabilities across all key areas. Of major importance and comfort to our customers is the fact that we now partner the world’s largest mill groups such as Sappi, Metsa Board, Stora Enso, Smurfit Kappa, Clearwater Paper, Mondi Paper, and Asia Pulp and Paper. These partnerships allow DPS access to the world’s best products, together with innovative thinking, considered pricing strategies, dependable logistics, and technical support," O’Neill concluded.
