Glatfelter’s Spring Grove Mill Converts to Natural Gas Boilers

Glatfelter will convert its Spring Grove, Penn., USA, mill from coal to natural gas to fuel its boilers with help from two grants from the state. The $5 million economic growth initiative grant and the $3 million alternative and clean energy grant will be added to $55 million of Glatfelter's own funds.
Glatfelter’s new boilers will use more than 2 billion cubic ft. of natural gas annually, ranking the mill as one of the region’s largest gas users. Use of such large volumes of gas will require the installation of a natural gas connector line from a transmission source to the mill.
Converting from coal to natural gas will make Glatfelter one of the area’s largest industrial natural gas users, according to Gov. Tom Corbett during remarks announcing the grants.
The mill produces specialty paper products.
