V.I.T. Papertec Hard Coatings Producing Good Results

V.I.T. Papertec, Gerlingen, Germany, reports that its hard coatings for precision metering rods are "yielding enormous results." The specific carbide–based hard coating, the PLATIN-coating for example, is one of the hardest known wear-resistant surfaces and provides the highest degrees of tensile strength and hardness, the company notes. Produced in a special high velocity procedure in the V.I.T. Papertec coating plant, the highest lifetime was attained compared with all known coatings for metering rods.

The premium coating TITAN is an extremely hard, oxide-based sprayed coating (photo) and provides improved lifetime compared with common surfaces.

However, the hard coatings are a great challenge for the whole industry, the company says. Due to a very long lifetime being achieved, the metering rod beds must conform to this extreme high standard. For this reason, V.I.T. Papertec developed a new rod bed generation. The result is a highly wear resistant, although highly flexible combination of PE-materials—the precision metering rod bed "Pink-Endurance." Due to the specific highly resistant, extremely firm and stable material, this metering rod bed offers several advantages, V.I. T. Papertec reports:
  • Best narrow rate <1%
  • Best quality of film and application
  • Excellent layer-cross profile
  • Heat-resistant up to 130°
  • First-rate features under dry running conditions at a low sliding friction coefficient.
