NC State Dept. of Forest Biomaterials Seeking Faculty Professor

The Department of Forest Biomaterials, part of NC State University's College of Natural Resources, Raleigh, N.C., USA, is seeking applicants for a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track faculty position. The incumbent will be expected to have practical work experience in the pulp and paper industry, possess a good working knowledge of pulp and paper processes, and have a passion for educating students. The candidate will also be expected to develop an externally funded research program to support graduate education. 

Skills in the areas of fiber science, nonwovens, papermaking, fibrous composite manufacture, mechanical engineering, process engineering, or material science are of potential interest for this position. The ideal candidate will have knowledge/skills/experience in one or more of the following areas:
  • Demonstrated experience with teaching or training students in a technical environment 
  • Industrial experience in the manufacturing of paper- or fiber-based materials 
  • A track record of maintaining a competitive research program related to utilization of forest materials for value added products. 
The successful applicant will be part of a department with 20 full time faculty members. For tenure track, responsibilities include teaching undergraduate classes, developing an externally funded research program in an area relevant to Forest Biomaterials, and teaching and mentoring graduate students. The department has a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary research environment. The successful candidate will be expected to collaborate with faculty within the department, across the university, and from around the world. It is expected that the incumbent will work with other faculty to develop funding for research projects that can support graduate students and expand the impact of their research program. 
 
A Ph.D. degree in engineering, physical sciences, or related area is required. Industrial experience is highly preferred. Prior university-level teaching experience will be valued. Previous experience in successful grantsmanship is a plus. The successful applicant must have the ability and desire to develop and conduct an effective research and education program in cooperation with other faculty, staff, federal funding agencies, and industry. The candidate must be an effective oral and written communicator. The position will be based in Raleigh, N.C.
