UPM, Helsinki, Finland, reports that its Fray Bentos pulp mill in Uruguay has now complied with all requirements set forth by the Ministry of Environment, Housing and Land Planning of Uruguay and has been authorized to increase its production level to meet the mill capacity as per the company's request in 2011. This resolution supports UPM pulp business to grow according to customer needs. It also benefits the growth and development of Uruguay’s forest sector.

UPM is one of the world’s leading producers of northern softwood, birch, and eucalyptus pulp supplying global customers through its own sales and technical service network close to the customers. The company operates four pulp mills—three in Finland and Fray Bentos in Uruguay, as well as plantation forestry operations in Uruguay. UPM Pulp employs approximately 1,500 people and has an annual pulp production capacity of 3.3 million metric tons.

UPM operates across six business areas—UPM Biorefining, UPM Energy, UPM Raflatac, UPM Paper Asia, UPM Paper Europe and North America, and UPM Plywood. The group employs about 21,000 people and its annual sales are approximately EUR 10 billion.
