Georgia-Pacific, Atlanta, Ga., USA, this week announced it has completed the acquisition of a chip mill in Bernice, La., from Hunt Forest Products Inc., Ruston, La., for an undisclosed price. The Bernice chip mill produces "clean chips" from logs that have been debarked before the chipping process, and are used to make paper products.

"We view this acquisition as a long-term investment that expands our access to wood and fiber supply in the region," said Mike Adams, SVP of sourcing for G-P. "The Bernice chip mill is a quality asset with a team of talented employees and will fit well into our existing sourcing operations."

G-P currently operates three facilities in Louisiana, in addition to a wood and supply office at Port Hudson. The company employs approximately 1,350 people directly in the state, with total compensation and benefits for Louisiana employees totaling approximately $110 million.
