The College of Natural Resources at North Carolina State University, Raleigh N.C., USA, has announced first recipients of the Phillips Family Leadership Incentive. This unique program was made possible by a $1 million endowment from the Richard and Mary Phillips Family (top photo).

The endowment creates $20,000 awards to recognize paper science and engineering students in the Forest Biomaterials department who have demonstrated extraordinary academic achievement, leadership, and service, and who have expressed a strong interest in business and professional success.

The Phillips Incentive will allow recipients to pursue a minor in business from the Poole College of Management at N.C. State University in addition to their Paper Science and Engineering degree. The 2014 recipients of the Phillips Family Leadership Incentive Award are Joe McDonald (photo on left), junior, and Patrick Leasure (photo on right), senior.
