Voith, Germany, reports that the company’s 500th NipcoFlex shoe press will be part of a new board machine it is delivering to the Indian paper manufacturer Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Paper Ltd. The board machine will start up in 2015 and is designed for a wire width of 4,300 mm and a speed of 600 m/min. A very high dewatering capacity is available with the two Tandem NipcoFlex shoe presses.

In 2010, Voith sold the 400th NipcoFlex shoe press to Tamil Nadu, which now runs a total of six NipcoFlex shoe presses from Voith. The first shoe press from Voith was put into operation in 1984. NipcoFlex shoe presses are used both for board and packaging paper as well as for graphic paper and tissue, and also in pulp drying machines. The technology is used in shoe calenders as well.

For example, Voith offers the NipcoFlex T shoe press specifically for tissue production. Compared with conventional press rolls, the dry content obtained with the NipcoFlex T after the press is up to 5% higher. With unchanging paper quality and very uniform dry CD profiles, up to 20% of the thermal energy can be saved, according to Voith.
