U.S. P&W Paper Shipments Decline

Total U.S. printing and writing (P&W) paper shipments in February decreased 3% compared with February 2013, with total inventories decreasing 3% from January levels, according to the recently-released AF&PA (Washington, D.C., USA) February 2014 Printing-Writing Paper Report. Additional key findings include:
  • Uncoated free sheet (UFS) paper shipments in February decreased 5% compared with February 2013, and YTD shipments are down 8% in 2014
  • February coated free sheet (CFS) papers shipments were down 1% compared with the same period in 2013
  • Uncoated mechanical (UM) paper shipments increased 7% in February, the fifth year-over-year increase in the past six months; YTD shipments of UM are up 2% compared with 2013
  • Coated mechanical (CM) shipments in February decreased 6% compared with February 2013; imports of CM in January were down 16% relative to the same period in 2013.
