Hakovirta Appointed SVP, Innovations, Stora Enso Renewable Packaging

Marko Hakovirta has been appointed SVP, Innovations, Stora Enso Renewable Packaging, effective June 1. Hakovirta is currently director and professor at Alabama Center for Paper and Bioresource Engineering, Auburn University, Auburn, Ala., USA. He will be based in Stockholm, Sweden, and report to Mats Nordlander, EVP, Renewable Packaging.
Hakovirta has several years of innovation, business development, and R&D leadership experience from industry and academia. Prior to his recent career in universities such as Auburn and Georgia Tech, he served as VP, technology at Metso Corp. He worked a total of about 10 years at Metso in various corporate and business line management positions.
Prior to his paper industry career, Hakovirta worked also at Los Alamos National Laboratory, USA, and at CERN, Switzerland. He has a PhD in physics from University of Helsinki, Finland, and an MBA from Emory University, Atlanta, Ga.
