U.S. P&W Paper Shipments Decline

Total U.S. printing and writing (P&W) paper shipments decreased 8% in January compared with January 2013, with decreases in all four P&W grades, according to the AF&PA (Washington, D.C., USA) January 2014 Printing-Writing Paper Report released this week. Additional key findings of the report include:
  • Uncoated free sheet (UFS) paper shipments in January decreased 11% compared with January 2013, with inventories increasing 5% over December levels
  • January coated free sheet (CFS) papers shipments decreased 4% compared with the same period in 2013, to 323,000 tons
  • Uncoated mechanical (UM) paper shipments decreased 2% in January, the first year-over-year decline in the past seven months
  • Coated mechanical (CM) shipments of 231,400 tons in January decreased 10% compared with January 2013.
