Georgia-Pacific, Atlanta, Ga., USA, reports that it will permanently close its corrugated packaging plant in Doraville, Ga., affecting some 90 employees. The operations will cease in April.

Company spokesperson Karen Cole said in an Atlanta Journal-Constitution article this week that employees are encouraged to apply for other openings within the company. G-P has two other packaging plants in the state, in Augusta and Albany.

"The business from Doraville for the most part will be absorbed into those two," Cole said. Georgia-Pacific has 18 total plants in Georgia, in addition to the Doraville location.

Half of the company’s more than 6,000 Georgia employees work in metro Atlanta. Georgia-Pacific employs a total of 35,000 people.
