Merle Named Weyerhaeuser SVP of Human Resources

Denise M. Merle has been named SVP, Human Resources, Weyerhaeuser (Federal Way, Wash., USA) effective February 28. Merle fills the position left by John Hooper, who is leaving the company to join StanCorp Financial Group in his hometown of Portland, Ore.

"Denise brings strong business acumen and tremendous people leadership skills to this role, and I look forward to the contributions she will make on our journey to become truly great," says Doyle Simons, president and CEO. "I want to thank John for his leadership and counsel, and I wish him all the best in his new role."

Merle has been director, finance and human resources for the Weyerhaeuser Lumber business since 2013. Prior to that role, she was director, compliance and enterprise planning from 2009 to 2013, and director of internal audit from 2004 to 2009. She held various roles in the company's paper and packaging businesses, including finance, capital planning and analysis, and business development. She joined the company in 1981.

Merle is a licensed CPA in the state of Washington. She holds a bachelor of accounting degree from Pacific Lutheran University and an MBA from Seattle University.
