Stora Enso to Ramp Skoghall Cartonboard Production to 100% Following Boiler Explosion

Stora Enso, Helsinki, Finland, reports that its cartonboard mill in Skoghall, Sweden, will return to full production this month. Due to an explosion of the mill’s chemical recovery boiler, CKB production has been running at a reduced level. Production loss is estimated to be about 1,000 metric tpd, according to a report by EUWID Pulp and Paper, Germany.

After an explosion of the recovery boiler on January 21, the production of NBSK pulp was halted. Due to limitations in steam production and pulp, the mill’s two board machines KM 7 and KM 8 only run alternately at the moment. The root cause of the explosion has been identified as water coming into the boiler, according to EUWID. The company plans to start up the recovery boiler this weekend, on February 8, and to ramp up production of both board machines February 9 -11.
