In the Spotlight: Paul Krochak - Running to the Future

As a marathoner, track runner, and swimmer, TAPPI member Paul Krochak, Ph.D., is no stranger to competition. In fact, he says, "there is something special for me about competing, and running is a natural outlet for this."

Natural may be an understatement. Paul and running partner Bjorn Englund competed last year for the first time in what is billed as one of the toughest endurance competitions in the world, Sweden’s famed "‘ÖTILLÖ." To prepare, Paul says they trained for 10 months with the single-minded goal of not only winning, but breaking the course record.

Paul’s intense concentration on perfection is apparent in his work, too. At PaperCon2013, he and three colleagues received the prestigious Jasper Mardon Prize for their study and presentation on "Bridging Chemical Dosage, Mixing Quality and Variability in Paper Sheets." Today he finds himself increasingly focused on potential change in the industry that he believes could be very positive. For Paul, one of the smartest investments he’s made in his career has been membership in TAPPI. "Membership serves as an essential source of information and I would really recommend it to anyone with any link to the industry, including students, young and senior professionals, and researchers."

Find out more by reading this month’s Member Spotlight. Spotlight participants are recommended by fellow members and staff. If you would like to nominate a member, just send their name (or names) to MemberSpotlight@tappi.org. We will forward a Spotlight Questionnaire to fill out and return.

We look forward to seeing you in the Spotliight!
