LEIPA Georg Leinfelder Mill in Germany Boosts PM 4 Runnability with New Refiner Fillings

The LEIPA Georg Leinfelder GmbH paper mill in Schwedt, Germany, replaced a standard refiner filling with the newly developed Voith (Germany) Pluralis IF in the TwinFlo refiner serving PM 4 at the mill. The Pluralis IF helped to improve strength development, while freeness increase remained the same, and increased availability of the paper machine. The next step is to use Pluralis IF in the mill’s second refiner line as well.

Pluralis IF is part of the Voith Pluralis Line and was developed for the special requirements in refining recycled fibers. Due to adapted geometries of the bars and grooves, the shortening of the fiber is reduced. This results in higher strength properties of the refined furnish.

PM 4 in Schwedt produces 360,000 metric tpy of LWC paper from 100% recycled fibers at a production speed of up to 1,800 m/min in a basis weight range of 51 to 70 gsm. The quality is equal to that of primary fiber products with regard to all relevant properties. LEIPA ultraMag papers are environmentally certified and bear the "Blue Angel" ecolabel.
