The TAPPI NET Division has announced the second installment in its webinar series on Nonwovens Processes. Introduction to Nonwovens Processes Part II will be held Thursday January 16, 2014, at 12:00 p.m. EST. This is the second part of a series covering the various methods used to produce nonwoven materials.

Nonwovens Processes Part II will continue to explore the various processes used in nonwovens manufacturing and will provide an overview of commonly used nonwovens language. The following technologies and products manufactured by them will be discussed; Carding/Crosslapping, Air laying, Needlepunching, Adhesive bonding, Hydroentanglement, and Calendar Bonding.

Technical persons new to the nonwovens industry and those in business, sales, and management who need a better understanding of the technologies used in nonwovens manufacturing will benefit from attending. This webinar is presented by Dr. Royal Broughton, professor emeritus, Polymer and Fiber Engineering, Auburn University. Dr. Broughton, a longtime TAPPI member, graduated from North Carolina State University first in Pulp & Paper Technology and then in Polymer & Fiber Science. He has spent 37 years teaching at Auburn, mostly in nonwovens and structure properties of fibers and polymers. His major research areas include antimicrobial surfaces, fiber extrusion, braiding, and fiber reinforced composites.

For more information and to register, visit the Introduction to Nonwovens Processes Webinar Part II course website.

The first webinar of this series was held today, December 12. It highlighted some of the most common processes including wet-laid, melt blown, and electrospinning.

Both of these webinars are offered free of charge.

These webinars are a preview of a tutorial session that will be held at the annual Innovative Nonwovens Conference, (NETInc) April 27-30, 2014, in Nashville, Tenn., USA. For the second year in a row, NETInc will be co-located with TAPPI’s PaperCon. NETInc is the perfect forum for Nonwovens industry professionals and academics to share information that encourages research innovations, new product development, and industry growth. A foundation of strong technical presentations combined with targeted networking opportunities allows for an environment of professional growth.
