Nippon Paper Raises Containerboard Prices

Nippon Paper Industries Co., Japan, this week announced price increases for linerboard and corrugated medium in the domestic market. Effective Jan. 21, 2014, the company will implement an approximate 15% markup on all kinds of linerboard and corrugated medium handled by its Containerboard Sales Division.

The company attributes the increase to the upward cost trend of wastepaper and fuels. "Although the company has made sustained efforts to reduce costs, it has proven difficult to absorb all of the cost increases through its own efforts, and thus decided that there was no alternative but to pass the cost on to the product prices," Nippon noted.
