Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Limited (TNPL), Tamil Nadu, India, has started up its new Andritz (Graz, Austria) deinking system. "We are very pleased that we have been able to complete this important project for TNPL and the Indian pulp and paper industry," said S. Udayasankar, chief GM (Projects) at TNPL.

The Andritz system includes a modern, three-loop, 300 metric tpd deinking system, including a FibreFlow drum pulper and two dispersers. The furnish for TNPL’s production of high-quality printing and writing papers consists of 80% SOP (sorted office papers), and 20% OMG (old magazine grades).

TNPL produces newsprint, printing, and writing paper from bagasse. The mill started production in 1984 with a capacity of 90,000 metric tpy and has increased production to 400,000 metric tpy by expanding and modernizing. This has made TNPL the world’s largest bagasse-based paper mill (1 million metric tons of bagasse per year). TNPL exports one-fifth of its production to more than 50 countries.
