The Alberta Forest Products Association (AFPA), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, this week announced that Craig Armstrong has been elected chair of the association’s board of directors. Armstrong is the president and CEO of Millar Western Forest Products Ltd., based in Edmonton. He has been with the company since 1987 and has more than 35 years of experience in the forest sector, including senior executive, operating, and marketing positions.

"I am very honored to be able to serve the association and Alberta’s forest industry as chair of the AFPA," said Armstrong. "This industry has been a major part of the economy in rural Alberta for generations, and we have now entered an exciting period of transformation. We are focused on keeping the forest sector strong, attracting young people to the industry, and continuing our commitment to environmental stewardship."

AFPA President and CEO Brady Whittaker welcomed Armstrong to the chair’s role. "Craig is one of the most respected and thoughtful people in our industry. The experience and integrity that he brings to our board is invaluable."

The AFPA has been the voice of Alberta’s forest industry for 71 years. Under Armstrong’s leadership, the AFPA board will work to promote the forest industry as a responsible manager of renewable resources, the foundation of Alberta’s growing bio-economy, and an exceptional place to build a career.

Armstrong replaces Jason Boucher as AFPA chair. Boucher, who will remain on the board, was thanked by Armstrong and Whittaker for his service in helping advance the Association.
